Although generally unchanged on the outside, the inside has been modernised and made comfortable, featuring two bars, a courtyard, dining room and a band room that holds up to 260 people. Easily accessed on the 86 Tram and open everyday 12pm - 1am (4pm - 1am on Mondays), The Workers Club has booked the likes of Mallrat, WAAX, These New South Wales and Velvet Archers .  This is easily one of the best live music venues in Fitzroy.


The Old Bar

Situated on Johnston Street, The Old Bar is one of Fitzroy’s most classic live music venues. Describing themselves as “old-school”, this venue has a lot to offer, hosting live music of varying genres every night of the week. Also offering specialty events including art exhibitions and knitting nights, The Old Bar sets itself apart from other venues. Open every day of the week from 2pm - 3am, they have booked the likes of The Bennies, Bones and Jones, Hachiku and A. Swayze & The Ghosts.


The Nightcat

Also located on Johnston Street, The Nightcat has become a Fitzroy institution, frequently showcasing some of the best artists around, including jazz, reggae and funk in their colourful line-up. Known for having a great atmosphere, the band room is red-lit with the stage located right in the centre. Open 10pm - 3am on Fridays and Saturdays and 7pm - 3am on Sundays, The Nightcat has hosted such artists as Slum Sociable, Amyl and the Sniffers, Basenji and Sampa The Great. Bar Open

A cosy pub that plays host to live music, comedy nights, film screenings and art shows, Bar Open is conveniently located on Brunswick Street in the heart of Fitzroy. The Evelyn Hotel

Another Brunswick Street venue, The Evelyn Hotel is a 350 capacity bar and band room hosting live bands seven nights a week. Affectionately nicknamed ‘The Ev’, this venue is renowned for cheap drinks and showcasing fantastic artists night after night. Open daily from 12.30pm - 1.30am, The Evelyn is the perfect example of an authentic live music venue. The Catfish
